How does the new Unpaired EV parking program work?

Modo now has EVs that are not paired with chargers at their home locations. These electric vehicles, known as Unpaired EVs, are strategically positioned near existing Modo locations and in proximity to convenient EV chargers. They depend on the collective efforts of members like you for charging and they actively support Modo's goal to make carsharing accessible in more places.

Why opt for unpaired EVs?

By taking the initiative to return the vehicle with a charge level 20% higher than when you started driving it, you not only earn a $20 driving credit on your Modo account but also contribute to fostering the cooperative spirit and ensuring the next member's journey is as seamless as yours.

Now, you're probably wondering:

• ‍How will I know if you have booked an Unpaired EV? The vehicle notes will specify that this vehicle is an EV that is not paired with a charger.‍‍
• ‍How will I know if the Unpaired EV needs charging? The vehicle's range is clearly displayed in kilometers on the front dash. Monitor it as it decreases during your trip, similar to a fuel level decline in a gas-powered vehicle.
• ‍Where should I charge the Unpaired EV, and will I have to pay for it? Use PlugShare (https://www.plugshare.com/) for up-to-date information on the closest available EV chargers and charging speeds. Your Unpaired EV comes with a BC Hydro charging card, and Modo will reimburse up to $20 if you use your own credit card at a paid charging station. Most chargers accept any Visa or Mastercard with “tap” for seamless payment.

• ‍Can I earn multiple $20 credits by charging the same Unpaired EV more than once? Unfortunately, no. Each booking is eligible for one $20 credit, regardless of how many times you charge the vehicle.‍
• Can I charge multiple Unpaired EVs in one day? Absolutely! You'll receive a $20 Modo driving credit for every booking where you increase an Unpaired EV's charge by at least 20% more than when your trip started. For example, if your Modo trip started with 20% charge and ended with 40% then you would receive $20 in Modo credit!
