Long Weekend in BC: Get Ready!
The long weekend is coming up, and you’re already stressed about finding places to go with the kids, your friends, your date and everyone else you call family. The clock is ticking, and yet you’re out of ideas. Whether you’re a die-hard planner or a last-minute person, Modo is here to take you where you want, when you need it.
Our team has compiled a list of some of their favourite activities that require little to no planning (but you can still book everything – including your Modo – a year in advance, promise, we won’t judge!).
1. Visit friends & family
We all have catchups we’ve been pushing back, and the long weekend is the perfect opportunity to visit this aunt you haven’t seen in years (yes, we’re counting in years with the pandemic!) or bring your friends to the mountain. Whistler, Manning Park, Mount Washington and Big White are a few BC classics that never get old. If you’re more into culture and want to share this interest with your kids, we highly recommend checking the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre.
2. Take Care Of Your Garden (Or Indoor Plant)
When was the last time you gave your greenery a fresh cut, soil or pot? They deserve love! This long weekend is your chance to make a detour at your local garden centre. You might even find a new baby plant to adopt (yes, looking at you, plant mom & dad!)
3. Farmers Market: Treat yourself with fresh produce
Picture this: Sunday morning. You’re wandering through the farmer’s market, discovering all the fresh produce and cheering on your favourite local merchants. Sounds dreamy? Head over to the farmers’ market this weekend!

Nutritious meals should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we also gathered a list of organizations helping people who experience food insecurity.
Lower Mainland:
- FoodStash
- Fresh Roots and Growing Chefs at Lunch LAB
- Meals on Wheels
Vancouver Island:
4. Explore your area by bird-watching!
There’s something soothing about wildlife, and you don’t need to be in the great outdoors to feel it. Did you know that Brackendale (Squamish) is home to one of the world’s largest populations of wintering bald eagles? Grab your best pair of binoculars and head there in the morning to increase your chance of admiring these majestic birds.
Living further south? You can visit the Maplewood Flats Conservation Area on the North Shore or the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta. If you feel like hopping on the ferry over to the island, the Shoal Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary at Roberts Bay is your bird-watching place!
5. Get On The Road
Need a ride? Modo’s large and loadable vehicles make it easy to tackle your long weekend goals! And because going out on an adventure goes with flexibility, convenience and safety, think about the following options for your next booking:
- End your booking anytime; pay only for what you use with the Open Return option.
- Special night? All bookings placed between 6 pm – 9 am are capped at the cost of just 3 hours.
- The Day Tripper rate comes with 250 kilometres (or 500 if you're a Modo Plus!) for every 24 hours of booked time and 35¢/km after that.
