Back in 1997, before carsharing was a thing, we set out to serve an unmet need – affordable transportation. You could say that we were a pioneer in our space, ahead of the times, a true BC original. Time and technology has brought many changes to our business, yet we remain committed to putting people before profit.
We define success through the lens of our Purpose, which is to transform communities by connecting people and places in a way that is affordable, convenient, inclusive and sustainable.
Modo operates on the unceded and shared territories of many First Nations. Unceded because most Indigenous Peoples in this province never entered into Treaty with the Canadian government, and shared because Indigenous lands are not divided by borders. Our main office is located on the unceded and shared ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
We and our members live and work on these lands and our cars move across them. We appreciate and respect the long-standing tradition of Indigenous Peoples in caring for the land. We recognize the harm that is caused to the environment – land, air, and water – through the use of vehicles, and commit to reducing that harm as a core part of our Purpose.
Modo’s round trip service is a great complement to transit and cycling. In fact, we advocate that our members walk, cycle, and take public transit whenever they can, and to choose a shared one, for times when a car is needed.
Compared to the annual cost of car ownership (which is hovering around $10,000 per year!), here’s why Modo makes good dollars and sense.
At just $4/hour including gas, insurance, maintenance and parking privileges, you get all the benefits of having a car, without all the hassles of owning one (or two). Grab your car and return it to same location for your next round trip.
We’re the only local, member-owned carshare co-operative, with a social purpose to transform communities by connecting people with places in a way that’s affordable, convenient, inclusive and sustainable.
Share 800 cars, SUVs, trucks, mini vans and more across the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and Okanagan. Book a year in advance or on the fly, and get 24/7 live support, with 96% member satisfaction!
By 2040, another million residents will move to Metro Vancouver, bringing with them 700,000 more vehicles at today’s rate of car ownership. Our round trip service reduces traffic congestion, GHGs and the need for so much parking.
