Q&A with Joey
From Keeners to Modo
Favourite Modo: Mazda 3 Sport at Marinaside on Davie Street (#469).
Joey joined the Modo Fleet Team for the summer before he heads back to school in the fall to pursue a degree at BCIT. Previously, Joey worked with our friends at Keeners, making sure our Modo cars are in tip top shape on a regular basis. Joining the Modo team was an easy switch for him, he says.
How long did you work at Keeners?
I worked for Keener’s for one year. I had learned about the project through my volunteer work at the Frog Hollows Neighbourhood House and became interested in the cause. I’ve worked part-time in a small team with 9-10 people, either mobile or at their UBC location and enjoyed the variety of tasks and the way everyone at Keeners is involved in the mentor ship program.
When did you start to work with Modo?
I was looking for a full-time opportunity and Andrew, the General Manager at Keeners made the connection with Modo’s Director of Fleet Operations Kelvin and introduced me. I like working independently with my own task list, every day is different and it’s nice to be outside (most of the time). Also, I just like driving. As an intro to the job, I had three days of training with Modo’s Fleet Service Technician Katherine!
You’re working with Modo until your Geographic Information Systems (GIS) degree at BCIT starts, what field are you most interested in?
I’m interested in mapping software, city development and planning and I’d like to keep working with Modo whenever my study time allows it.
