Modo launches carsharing in Port Moody!
via The City of Port Moody website:
We are excited to introduce carsharing to Port Moody! Carsharing is a smart transportation option for residents seeking to save money and reduce environmental impact, while reducing road congestion. Join us for our Carshare Launch Event on August 13, 2014.
Carsharing offers the occasional convenience of a car without the expense of owning one.
In Port Moody, you can now join Modo, the region’s first carshare, founded in Vancouver’s West End in 1997. Modo gives you access to hundreds of vehicles across the Lower Mainland that you can “rent” by the hour or the day. Gas, insurance, maintenance, parking, local bridge tolls and roadside assistance are included, along with great perks.
Whether Modo is replacing car ownership or serves as your family’s second car, the member-owned car co-operative is a convenient way of to get around the City and our region without the responsibility of car ownership. It’s also a great complement to public transit and active transportation modes.
Modo and City Staff have worked together over the last several months to bring carsharing to Port Moody.
The City of Port Moody is the first corporate member in Port Moody to sign up for Modo. Our corporate membership will be used by some of our staff for work-related trips, allowing them to leave a vehicle at home and commute by transit or bike.
Modo plans to launch its carshare vehicles in Port Moody with two vehicles located in the Inlet Centre Area: a Toyota Prius V hybrid and a Nissan Versa Note. A third vehicle – possibly a minivan – will also be launched within the year.
Modo is a two-way carshare, which means that each vehicle has a home location, with a dedicated parking stall reserved only for that vehicle.
Members pick up and drop off each vehicle at its home location. The benefit of this system is it allows members to book a specific vehicle up to a year in advance. For more information on the locations of Modo’s fleet or to sign up, visit www.modo.coop.
Vehicles will have exclusive parking spaces at these Port Moody locations:
One located at City Hall, the other in Suter Brook Village.
