Bike to Work Week happens twice a year and offers a great opportunity each time for us to start or recommit to bike commuting. Making the switch to two wheels is not only a great way to wake up our brains and bods in the morning, it also helps us save money while we burn calories, while reducing pollution in the city.
According to Bikescore.com, Vancouver is the second best city in Canada for accessibility to cyclists, based on availability of bike lanes, hilliness, number of destinations, and number of commuters. Vancouver’s extensive network of bike infrastructure includes 255 kilometres of bike lanes of which 39 kilometres are painted bike lanes, 6 kilometres are separated bike lanes, and 40 kilometres are off-street bike paths.
The City’s goal is to have at least half of all trips made in the City on foot, bike or transit by 2020.
This week, May 27 to June 2, marks the Spring edition of Bike to Work Week, and HUB is hosting celebration stations all over the city to greet you on your way to and from work with free coffee, snacks, bike tune-ups and daily giveaways.
Find the schedule for the week’s Celebration Stations across Metro Vancouver – from UBC to Coquitlam, North Van to Surrey – at http://www.biketoworkmetrovan.ca/commuter-stations-map.
