#LetsModo with Dani & Kate!

Dani and Kate ventured to Penticton over the Canada Day long weekend for some World Cup action, beach time and the finest fruit from BC’s Pie Belt! Here’s their story.

#LetsModo with Dani & Kate

By Modo

Dani & Kate joined our #LetsModo team and took a long weekend trip to Penticton for some World Cup action, beach time and sampled some of the finest fruit from BC’s Pie Belt!

  • Destination: Penticton

    By Modo

We’re off to Penticton in a brand new Modo, a cute little Nissan Versa Note – let’s get on the road!

  • You know you’re close to Penticton when…

    By Modo

… you see a horse chiropractor driving next to you down the highway.

  • Penticton accommodations: check!

    By Modo

We stayed at the beachfront Slumber Lodge, which gave us amazing cleanliness and value. $75/night for 2 beds and a mini fridge? Definitely would stay here again!

  • World Cup with Americans

    By Modo

After we arrived, we met up with our friends Cory & Tom, who, like Dani – if you can’t tell – are American. They were revved up to watch the US play Belgium, which we did alongside an actual Belgian!

  • Beat you to the beach!

    By Modo

The Belgians may have beat the US 2-1, but we beat them all by finding a sunny spot on the sand.

  • Pop-up shop on the boardwalk

    By Modo

Apparently, Penticton’s boardwalk is a great place to acquire a weird lamp or two. Tom & Cory picked up several from a few very insistent ladies at a garage sale.

  • Beach restaurant with a view

    By Modo

After the beach, we headed over to Salty’s Beach Restaurant for steak, seafood and great cocktails with an amazing view – what more could we ask for?

  • Kate and the Giant Peach

    By Modo

The next morning, remembering the giant peach we found on the boardwalk, Kate gets some nagging cravings…

  • Crêpes, Anyone?

    By Modo

So for breakfast, she orders a peach crepe at The Cupcake Lady. Delicious, even though the service is slow.

  • Entering the Pie Belt

    By Modo

But even that tasty crepe doesn’t satiate us, so…

  • BC’s Pie Belt

    By Modo

On our way home, we decide to hit up BC’s "Pie Belt": a 1-km strip of fruit stands on Highway 97 near Summerland. We pick up 5 lbs of cherries and 2 fruit pies!

  • Dani and the Giant Cherry

    By Modo

"Hahahahahaha! Oh Cherry, you’re so funny!"

  • Toll Bridges included on Modo bookings

    By Modo

Almost home, we experience another Modo perk: the toll on the Port Mann Bridge is waived for members.

  • Courteous carsharing

    By Modo

Before returning the car to its home location, we do a little clean up of the car and save our receipts for reimbursement (plus a $5 credit for our efforts!).

  • Thanks, Modo!

    By Modo

We had an awesome adventure and are feeling highly grateful for our zippy little ride. #LetModo again!

Thanks to Modo, we took a fabulous 2-day vacation to Penticton to meet some friends, hit the beach and watch World Cup soccer. Watch the agonizing tension during the July 1 match!

Round-trip, we travelled about 828 km, which would cost Modo Co-op members just $238.21 and Casual members $294.55, with all the gas and insurance covered by Modo! By comparison, a 2-day car rental from Vancouver airport will run about $200-$280 and doesn’t include gas, which would be at least another $100 for our trip. There’s savings to be had with Modo!

Get out there and #LetsModo to the beautiful Okanagan Valley, Vancouverites – it’s only a Modo away!
