A group of youth, age 14-25, from the  Collingwood Neighbourhood House Food Stories Group recently attended the 18th Annual BC Food Systems Network Gathering in Penticton. The theme of this year’s gathering was “Reconciling Cultures and Re-connecting Foodscapes” and the group was invited to share their personal food stories.

The photo is of a group of Collingwood Renfrew Neighbourhood House youth delegation who attended the BC Food Systems gathering in Penticton where they presented stories of food and food justice from a youth perspective.

“It is important that youth attend these gatherings – they have diverse opinions on food systems and food security. The stories the youth shared spoke to how they personally felt connected to food in their life Some stories were about their garden clubs, how they thought of food before and now when they’re older; funny food stories, and some were even about family members and their habits. The stories ranged from humour, sadness, and even joyful experiences they had encountered with or around food, all showing the wonderful growth of intelligence, knowledge, and passion of each of the youth speakers”. – Crecien Bencio

Modo was an obvious choice for us for the convenience of shuttling a large group together, but moreover, we support the environmentally and socially sustainable option that the Modo carshare offers. The vans were super comfortable and worked great for our trip to the gathering. — Ian Marcuse
